Job Description

Are you a strategic thinker and strong writer with a passion for connecting mission-driven work to funding opportunities? The John Michael Kohler Arts Center is seeking a dynamic Grants Manager to lead our efforts in securing foundation, corporate, and government grants. In this role, you’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to shape compelling proposals and budgets, build and steward relationships with funders, and identify new sources of support. Essential Duties & Responsibilities :

  1. Initiate and partner with staff across the organization to understand funding priorities, document and articulate program activities, outcomes and intended impact, plan grant and report submissions, and corporate sponsorship reports. Initiate ideas and input from program and finance staff that inform creation of project narratives, outcomes, objectives, metrics, budgets, and other supporting documents. (30%) 
  2. Synthesize organization information to write funding proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports focused on supporting programs in the annual operating budget (30%) 
  3. Manage administration of organization wide grants process and grants and reports calendar including deadlines, contact and relationship details and moves management activity in CRM, tracking progress toward goals.  (20%)  
  4. Cultivate, solicit, and steward foundation donors and donor prospects, both local and national, directly or by supporting the primary relationship manager.  (15%) 
  5. Actively participate in Development staff meetings, planning, and prospect strategy meetings with Executive Director and Development Director. (10%) 
  6. Research new grant opportunities, both local and national. (5%) 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Detail oriented, with strong time management and organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks, meeting deadlines  
  • Proven ability to plan for and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment 
  • Proven research skills 
  • Demonstrated success in meeting financial goals, deadlines 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or 4 – 8 years of equivalent experience in a related field preferred. 
  • Two years of professional grant writing experience in a nonprofit organization 
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening, written and verbal communication skills, editing skills, and ability to synthesize information in a compelling and accurate way 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite 
  • Experience with customer relationship management software a plus

The position is office/art gallery based and noise level usually moderate.  May occasionally work inside or outside at events where noise level could be moderate to loud.   

Hours of work include daytime hours Monday – Friday and occasionally Saturday and Sunday to meet staffing and/or event needs.
